Right, itโs that time again, the Eurovision Song Contest is back, and whether you love it or only watch it โironicallyโ, youโll probably still end up glued to it.
This year's show is coming live from Basel, bringing together a mixture of countries, styles, and let's be honest, some very questionable staging decisions!
What even is Eurovision anymore?
If you've never watched it properly, Eurovision is basically:
- One part serious music competition
- One part absolute chaos
- One part "what did I just watch?"
You'll get a splash of everything from genuinely incredible vocals to a performance that feels like a fever dream. And somehow, that's exactly why it works!
It's also launched some massive names over the years. ABBA came from this, and more recently, Mรฅneskin turned their win into global success too.
The UK... Dare we be hopeful?
The UK, via the BBC, goes into Eurovision every year with a mix of optimism and emotional damage, often with nil points, and the more recent second place from Sam Ryder, with his hit Space Man in 2022, losing to Ukraine, due to the conflicts, the UK hosted Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.
We've had a bit of a comeback recently, so there's always that tiny bit of hope, that maybe, just maybe, this is the year we don't end up at the bottom again.
No promises though ๐ฅฒ
The Voting... AKA The Stressful Bit
The voting is where things get properly tense.
You've got:
- Juries giving out points like they're music critics
- The public is just doing whatever they feel like
And then right at the end, everything flips on its head. Every year.
Why does everyone still watch it?
Even if you're not fully into Eurovision, it's one of those nights where everyone's watching the same thing at the same time.
Group chats go mad, X turns into a warzone (#Eurovision2026), and there's always at least one act that becomes a meme within minutes ๐
So, what does the UK have in store this year?
Look Mum No Computer is the stage name of Sam Battle, a UK musician, YouTuber, and full-blown DIY electronics mad scientist!
He's not your typical artist. Instead of just making music on a laptop, he literally builds his own instruments from scratch, often using old, weird, or completely random bits of tech.
What does he actually do?
Think of it this way:
- Synths made from old toys
- Organs built out of Furbies (they look demonic, personally speaking, don't feed them after midnight)
- A literal synthesiser bike
That's not even exaggerating either; that's his whole thing.
He's basically taken "bedroom producer" and turned it into "garage inventor meets musician". Most of his content is him building these machines, then actually using them to make proper tracks.
So, where does the UK stand a chance this year?

The UK are battling once again this year for that top spot. Here's where we've been the past 10 years.
