The extended look was released on August 27, 2026, and Rockstar has now made the footage available through its official channels.

GTA 6 Gets Its Biggest Gameplay Showcase Yet

Unlike the previous trailers, Rockstar's latest presentation gives players a much closer look at what it will actually be like to explore and play GTA 6.

Rockstar confirms that the footage was captured entirely from the game running on PlayStation 5, meaning the impressive environments, character animations and gameplay systems shown aren't simply pre-rendered cinematic footage.

The result is a showcase that makes GTA 6 look like a major technical step forward for the series.

Jason and Lucia Take Center Stage

At the heart of GTA 6 are its two protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.

The extended footage puts their relationship and criminal partnership front and center. The pair are forced to depend on one another after a robbery goes wrong, pulling them into a much larger criminal conspiracy across the fictional state of Leonida.

Rockstar's official material describes Jason as someone who has spent much of his life around criminals and is looking for a way to change his circumstances. Meeting Lucia could be the turning point in his life — for better or worse.

The footage also demonstrates how the two characters can work together during dangerous situations, while still having their own activities and missions.

A Much More Detailed Vice City

One of the biggest takeaways from the extended look is simply how alive the world of GTA 6 appears.

Vice City returns, but Rockstar is expanding far beyond the city itself. Players will travel through different environments across Leonida, with locations ranging from urban streets and beaches to rural areas and the Keys.

The world is packed with considerably more detail than previous games. Buildings have highly detailed interiors, crowds react to what's happening around them, and the environments are filled with activities designed to make Leonida feel like a functioning place rather than simply a backdrop for missions.

More Than Just Driving and Shooting

The new footage also highlights the sheer variety of activities available to players.

Jason and Lucia can participate in activities away from the main storyline, while the game features familiar GTA staples such as driving, shooting, robberies and police chases alongside newer interactions.

The extended look reportedly showcases activities including boating, basketball, diving, racing and parachuting, giving players plenty to do outside of the main missions.

Rockstar also appears to be putting greater emphasis on how players approach situations rather than simply following a predetermined sequence of events.

Police Chases Look More Dynamic

Police encounters are another area Rockstar appears to have significantly expanded.

The footage shows Jason and Lucia dealing with law enforcement during high-speed pursuits, including situations where one character can drive while the other takes care of enemies or police officers.

This creates opportunities for the two protagonists to work together instead of simply functioning as separate playable characters.

The police system itself also appears to be more sophisticated, with law enforcement able to recognize the protagonists and react to their actions in different ways.

GTA 6 Is Still Coming This Year

Despite the enormous amount of attention surrounding the extended look, the most important detail remains the release date.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, with the game coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's official website currently lists the November 19 release date and the two platforms.

That means the extended look isn't just another distant glimpse at a game that may be years away. Players are now only months away from finally getting their hands on it.

The Wait Is Almost Over

For Rockstar, GTA 6 represents more than another sequel. It is the follow-up to one of the most successful games in entertainment history and the first mainline Grand Theft Auto game in more than a decade.

The extended look suggests Rockstar is aiming to make the wait worthwhile.

With a massive world, two protagonists, a deeper criminal storyline and a huge variety of activities, GTA 6 looks set to push the series further than ever before.
